New Coleman Pro Coolers Will Offer Affordable Rotomolded Alternative

Coleman has just taken the wraps off a new line of coolers that look a lot like the high-priced competition from Orca, Yeti and RTIC—but with a lower price tag.

The new Coleman Pro series has new rotomolded hard coolers designed for “extreme durability, superior insulation, and effortless transportability,” according to the company’s PR. They really mean that part about durability; the company says these are the toughest coolers they’ve ever made, and they come with a 10-year warranty. Latches are made of steel, not easily-breakable plastic, and the coolers are beefy enough that you can sit on them without worrying about them crumpling.

As for the claims of superior insulation: Coleman says the walls on the Pro line are beefed-up, and the lid is fully-insulated as well, and sealed with a gasket for up to five days of ice retention (obviously, this is dependent on factors such as exterior temperatures). And yet, Coleman also says that despite this focus on insulation, the cooler is still up to 30 percent lighter than other rotomolded coolers of the same capacity.

The coolers have an oversized drain plug for draining quickly. The larger coolers have oversized rubber wheels to help them roll over bumps on your campsite (or potholes in the stadium parking lot, at your tailgate party). There’s a set of non-slip feet underneath to help them stay put in the back of your car or truck when you’re moving, and there are tieddown slots as well, so you can strap them securely. They can be secured with a padlock on the lid if necessary.

Pricing for the new Coleman Pro rotomolded coolers starts at $159 for the 25-quart size; the 45-quart rotomolded cooler is $199. Jumping up to the 55-quart cooler sees a $299 price tag, as this is the swankiest of them all. For now, all these coolers are available in dark blue or light blue.

A new set of soft coolers also joins the Pro lineup. [Coleman]
If you’re looking for a soft cooler, they’ve also got those in the Coleman Pro line, with a new 16-can cooler for $59 or a 24-can cooler for $79.

These soft coolers might not be the best choice for a long upriver fishing trip, but they’ll absolutely work for shorter-term jobs. [Coleman]
