“Duck Dynasty” Finale Shatters Viewer Record for A&E

The show that broke out of the outdoors and into the mainstream has now broken out of the mainstream and into history. The second season finale of Duck Dynasty was watched by 6.5 million viewers on Wednesday, December 5, becoming A&E’s most-watched broadcast in network history.

It was “the network’s most-watched telecast of all time among all key demos, including total viewers, adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54,” according to a press release from A&E. Of those viewers, 3.9 million were adults in the target 18 to 49 demographic.

The season finale was an hour-long Christmas edition (watch a clip below). It scored a best-in-television 3 rating for reaching the advertiser-preferred audience between 10 and 11 p.m. In this second season, viewership of the show increased by 139 percent, pushing it into the top spot for Wednesday night cable shows.

Duck Dynasty was also the most social show on cable Wednesday night. According to Trendrr.TV, Blufin Labs and Social Guide, the series had more total activity across all major social media platforms than any other telecast on cable for the night,” the press release continued. In addition, AETV.com had the highest number of page and video views in the site’s history the day after the episode aired.

Duck Dynasty is produced for A&E Networks by Gurney Productions. Season three premieres in early 2013.
