DuPage County, Illinois Deer Confirmed with CWD

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is working with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to further test for chronic wasting disease after a deer tested positive in the district’s Mallard Lake Forest Preserve.

Officials said the infected animal was among 250 deer culled between November and mid-December as part of the forest preserve district’s annual deer removal program. Of the culled deer, 85 were tested for CWD.

The district has been doing annual testing since 2002, the same year CWD first was detected in extreme northern Illinois. This is the first confirmed case in DuPage County.

Immediate plans include the culling and testing of another 20 deer.
