Lost Louisiana Trespasser Arrested for Illegal Gun Possession

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents arrested a convicted felon on Dec. 19 for allegedly possessing a firearm illegally and booked him into the Bienville Parish Jail.
Ray McKinney, 37, of Benton, was found outside of Jamestown by a landowner deer hunting on property without the landowner’s permission on Nov. 25. When the landowner confronted McKinney, he ran into the woods and became disoriented spending the night in the woods.
Rescuers from the LDWF Enforcement Division and the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office located McKinney on the morning of Nov. 26 near Hwy. 507.
McKinney did not possess any of the required licenses, deer tags or hunter’s orange. LDWF Enforcement Division agents cited McKinney on Nov. 26 for deer hunting without a basic or big game hunting license, without deer tags and failing to wear hunters orange. Agents also seized a rifle from McKinney.
After further investigation, agents discovered that McKinney is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess a firearm as a condition of his probation. A warrant was obtained for his arrest and he surrendered into custody on Nov. 26.
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon brings a fine between $1,000 and $5,000 and between 10 to 20 years in prison. Hunting without a basic or big game license and without hunter’s orange brings a fine of $50 and up to 15 days in jail for each offense. Hunting without deer tags carries a fine between $100 and $350 and up to 60 days in jail.
