National Wildlife Federation’s “Ranger Rick” Magazine for Kids Goes Digital
OutdoorHub 01.07.13
Ranger Rick, everyone’s favorite raccoon, is introducing a new, highly interactive magazine app called Ranger Rick’s Tree House. The National Wildlife Federation, publisher of Ranger Rick magazine, and also Ranger Rick’s Tree House, has entertained and educated generations of children about the wonders of animals and nature for 50 years. Like the print magazine, all educational content within the magazine app is aligned to national curriculum standards and meets the fun-factor that Ranger Rick readers have grown to know and love.
“This product totally re-envisions how children ages 7-12 read and consume magazine-like content on digital devices,” says Mary Dalheim, Editorial Director of Ranger Rick Publications. “No other digital children’s magazine is more innovative, interactive, or just plain fun.”
Come Inside and Join the Fun
When Ranger Rick opens the door to his tree-house home, lots of intriguing rooms await! There’s a Living Room, Video Room, Games Rooms, Mystery Closet—all ready for kids to explore at their own pace! The rooms are packed with clickable animal stories that come to life on the iPad screen, comic adventures, multi-level games, animal videos, nature activities, wildlife mysteries, and goofy jokes and photos.
A back door leads to Ranger Rick’s Backyard—an awesome place filled with wildlife games and activities. Also in the yard is a special tool that lets kids track the time they spend outdoors each week. Throughout the app are many opportunities for children to earn badges by correctly using what they learn in the app.
App Gets Rave Reviews
“It looks like—wow—I am already there. I have been on many websites, and I have been on many kids apps, and none of them has this idea type,” said Monica, age 9, who was granted a preview of the app.
Ranger Rick’s Tree House was co-created by the award-winning FableVision Studios, whose playful, story-based approach to learning and creating “stories that matter, stories that move” has included such partners as The Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop, and Nickelodeon.
