Brian “Pigman” Quaca is the “Boss Hog” in New Series Premiering on Discovery Channel

Building a Pig Empire is Hard Work – Welcome to Pigtime Enterprises; Produced by Gurney Productions

Many unique things come out of Brian “Pigman” Quaca’s mouth that are unfamiliar outside of his Pigtime Enterprises world – but one thing that is easily understandable from this Texan is how to make money off the nuisance feral hog problem. On “Boss Hog,” Pigman’s second TV series, but the first that dives deeper into his ranch and life, viewers will see beyond the bow and arrow and into Pigtime Enterprises where Quaca and his band of misfits (aka friends and family) are building an empire making money from every aspect of a pig – from booking clients on hog hunts to customizing hog hunting equipment.  Tune in to Boss Hog on Discovery Channel Friday April 11 at 10PM ET/PT.

“I’m turning the destructive wild hogs of Texas into my own personal fortune,” said Brian “Pigman” Quaca. “If it’s got to do with a pig, I’m going to find a way to make money off of it.”

In the first two episodes airing April 11, viewers get to meet many of Pigman’s surrounding characters, including an introduction to his partnership with local barbeque joint, Wright’s BBQ. At the helm of the BBQ business is Quita, helping Wright’s serve up delicious BBQ to Texas for the past 50 years. Whether she’s trying to curb Pigman’s big business ideas for Wright’s or just keep tabs on Pigman’s wacky dad, Dap, Quita’s partnership with Pigtime has become a lot more than she bargained for.

Pigman has one main goal in life: to provide for his thirteen year old son, J.D.  Pigman’s every ambition stems from the idea that he’ll one day pass on his pig business and pig legacy to his son. Right now, Pigman’s doing everything in his power to build on that legacy and take his pig empire to the masses.

In the second episode, viewers are introduced to Wes, Pigtime’s Foreman and Kylie, the Office Manager. They are really the ones who make Pigtime Enterprises run smoothly (even if Pigman believes its him). “If God gave Pigman anything, its an ego,” said Wes Dunne, Foreman.  “He shoots his mouth more than anything else.”  And viewers see more of Dap, Pigman’s dad who probably tests his patience more than anyone else and Snag, the all-around shipping clerk who does a great job of sitting. Dap runs the Pigtime hunting ranch, and its quickly learned that with Dap, if it’s not one thing it’s another, but somehow he always gets the job done – he just has a unique way of solving problems.

But above all else, its feral hogs that are the number one reason Pigman has his name. Feral hogs are smart and opportunistic omnivores, meaning they feed on plant and animal matter in addition to being able to play the role of a scavenger. They are largely indiscriminant in their feeding habits and eat both vertebrate and invertebrate animals. Approximately 85 percent of their diet is believed to be composed of vegetation (including crops where available).

“Feral hogs were once largely a rural or agricultural issue in Texas, inflicting over $52 million in damage annually,” said Dr. Billy Higginbotham, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist. “But the porkers have literally moved to town and are now causing significant damage in urban and suburban communities. This damage includes the rooting of landscapes, parks, lawns, golf courses sports fields and even cemeteries, as they search for food. Some reports estimate total damage in the U.S. may be $1.5 billion annually which is based on population estimates.”
