New Signature South 40 Birdshooter II … Altogether Tougher

The tale behind original South 40 was written in the pheasant fields of South Dakota in 1983-1984. Introduced in 1984, the Russell South 40 Birdshooter was an instant success and served bird hunters well for nearly 25 years. The South 40 Birdshooter is about guys, dogs, birds walking a lot of miles in heavy cover. The original was given an upgrade a couple years ago but Russell didn’t stop there. We listened to our dedicated bird hunting customers who hunt hard and often. They wanted tougher, longer wearing refinements that would stand up to the ravages of miles and miles of brutal CRP and tough cover. The new Signature South 40 II combines “tougher” with “improved comfort.”
First, we fitted the Signature South 40 II with a new low profile Vibram Stalker sole that provides better balance, stability and ground feel. We replaced the original outside molded sole with a heavy duty 6-1/2 oz. bullhide leather. The toe piece is now made from sharkskin…3X tougher than cow hide…absolutely Mother Nature’s toughest leather! And to make long days afield chasing birds behind spirited dogs a joy, we built in a heavy duty Poron Technical foam layer between the molded sole and the vamps, (does not compress with wear)! Poron underfoot softens up the walk considerably, a feature you will enjoy at the end of a long day. The South 40 II features double vamp construction made from waterproof WeatherTuff Leather, fully leather lined with soft Agua Tan waterproof leather, standard quick lacing studs…and made by hand to your exact measurements. Light weight and nimble for all day comfort. Your dog will think you’re on steroids! Also available in women’s sizes!
