Magnum Research 1911 U Model Highlights the July Issue of American COP Magazine

From an overview of the best on-scene lights to a riveting crash-survival story, the July issue of American COP features a balanced diet of compelling narrative and useful reviews. Editor Suzi Huntington and Publisher Roy Huntington detail the classic design of the Magnum Research 1911 U Model and provide readers with the well-forged history behind the popular pocket pistol.

“The fact the Magnum Research 1911 U Model relies on a long line of historically significant designs and ideas to help you get your job done simply makes it even more important,” writes Huntington. “While a piece of plastic and metal can accomplish the job, there’s merit in a classic design that still lives — because it still works.”

Whether its searching a canyon for a missing child or illuminating the scene of a late-night collision, in “Holding The Sun In Your Hands,” Dave Douglas takes a look at the brightest, must-have flood lights to have on the beat.

“Streamlight’s E-Flood Litebox HL blasts out up to 3,600 lumens of pure white light from six C4 LED’s,” writes Douglas. “The Portable Scene Light uses the same LED head as the E-Flood LiteBox, and gets you elevation up to 72″ — think of it as a way to light up a crash scene if you work for a municipality or county that doesn’t have the budget to support a light truck.”

In “Playing Crash Test Dummy,” contributor Bradley Nickell shares his near-death encounter while on-duty in Las Vegas, detailing the grizzly aftermath and emphasizing the importance for all drivers and riders to wear their seatbelts.

“I never wore a seatbelt, but there was incontrovertible evidence I’d been wearing one during the crash,” writes Nickell. “I hadn’t been expected to live, let alone ever work as a cop again. I gained firsthand understanding seatbelts save the lives of police officers more often than any other piece of equipment we have.”

Other features in the July issue include a look at edged-weapons expert Brian Hoffner’s Defensive Folding Knife Training as well as a review of the new 2014 Ford Interceptor Utility and how innovations in engineering are improving the way law enforcement goes mobile.

The July Gun of the Month Giveaway, valued at over $1,200, is highlighted by the Mossberg MVP Patrol in 5.56mm NATO. The giveaway also includes the high carbon steel, fixed blade Border Heat from TOPS Knives, a complete weapon care system from FrogLube and the TK09 tactical flashlight from Fenix.
