Review: AmmoSquared – Is It Worth It?

If you shoot a firearm or two, you know how important it is to have some ammo on hand. Over the past few years, there were some desperate times when ammo was scarce.  AmmoSquared is one of the recent solutions to this particular problem.

Ammo shortages and price increases happen a lot, especially during times of uncertainty like presidential elections and economic crises. To this day it’s very difficult to find primers, but most everything else is coming back into stock and prices are adjusting back down. Took a long while, though, and I know we’ll see shortages and price increases again.

That’s why it’s important to stock up little by little when the supply is good.

Years ago when AmmoSquared first came out, I was skeptical about how good it was really going to be. AmmoSquared is a subscription service for ammunition. Sounds great in theory, but was it going to be expensive? How much ammo was I really going to be getting? What was the quality going to be like?

Well, we signed up, and even before receiving our first order, we were surprised by the entire setup. We had so many options to choose from, and it was reasonably priced.

They offer prices starting at just $5.

Choose which ammo you want, how much you want to spend each month, and how often you want it to get delivered. You’re in total control! There was a time we were getting a delivery every month, then it was every three months then we chose an option to let us decide when we would like it shipped. There are so many options available.

The ammo is solid. We haven’t gotten any ammo that was below par. They source their ammo from a variety of places, but again, everything has been great so far.

They used to offer loose ammo in vacuum-sealed bags, but they don’t offer that anymore. The picture you see down below of the loose ammo in the vacuum-sealed bag is older.

To get started, choose the calibers you want, you choose when you want your ammo to ship, such as based on round count or time frame, then checkout, and you’re done. You can change your preferences at any time, as well as cancel at any time.

We were lucky to have our account in 2020. They had to have a waiting list because so many people wanted ammo and like most everywhere else, they simply couldn’t get the ammo needed to supply the demand.

They’ve since opened up subscriptions to everyone and as far as I know, don’t plan to stop anytime soon.

A unique situation that we were in was not being able to use AmmoSquared anymore because we had moved to Alaska. If you’re not aware, you can’t get ammo delivered to you in Alaska, you can buy a freight’s worth or you can get it from local gun shops. Otherwise, ammo cannot be delivered directly to your home. Ammo has to be shipped ground and, unfortunately for us, that wasn’t a possibility in Alaska.

When we canceled, customer service was awesome and totally accommodating. We were able to get a partial refund based on the amount of ammo we had in our account. That was unexpected but very nice. They essentially “bought” the ammo back from us.

However, now that we’re back in the lower 48, we signed up again and are happy to know we at least have a little bit coming to us each month.

This is one of those ideas that I wish I had come up with. Having ammo delivered right to your door automatically? Genius.

They call it your ammo piggy bank, and that’s as accurate a description as I could ever come up with.

Keep your ammo topped off with hardly any thought at all. I highly recommend AmmoSquared!
