Review: Stay Cool with the ITEHIL Portable Solar Fan

Throughout my years of prepping, I have been asked time and time again, “how do we stay cool in an emergency?”

There are many suggestions, but one of the biggest ones that can truly help with some relief is by using a fan. Fans take electricity, though, so you could either plug the fan into a generator or get a fan that uses batteries. There are low wattage fans that can be run even with a solar power bank and there are some really nice battery operated fans that we’ve even used while camping to relieve some of the heat at night.

But wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to worry about either of those options?

Finally, ITEHIL, the same people who came out with the battery powered reverse osmosis system, has revolutionized the camping and preparedness world yet again with a portable solar powered fan!

I was ecstatic when I heard about this. Finally! A fan that charged via solar!

Living here in the great north, we still get hot days and we also get lots of sun! Ever heard of the midnight sun? Yeah, that’s us, Alaska. We’re the midnight sun! We can keep this baby charged 24/7 in the summer! Ok, well, except when it rains.

But anyway, there are other reasons we would want a fan outside of the summer, including distributing heat throughout an area.

Let’s look at some specs of this rechargeable solar fan:

  • With a full charge, it can run 24 hours on low, 20 hours on medium, 13 hours on high and 10 hours on turbo; these are impressive numbers!
  • Lightweight and portable, folding flat and only weighing 4.55lbs.
  • Integrated timer so it’ll turn off after a certain amount of time.
  • Takes 10 hours to charge via a wall outlet (or generator with appropriate power) or 14 hours just by the solar panel.
  • Overcharge and overdischarge protection; this is a hugely important factor, especially with anything that takes charge so you don’t ruin the battery.

I am super impressed with this lightweight solar fan. I think the ideal way to use this fan is to actually have two. One of them is charging outside with the sun while the other is inside (tent or home) cooling you off. But the nice thing is that you can also plug this into a solar generator other generator or wall outlet and charge it. Has various options to keep it charged and running. It can also run and charge at the same time.

It’s not going to keep a whole house cool, but it will keep a tent cooler, great for in the car if you’re car camping, great for an RV and great for emergency preparedness to keep a little cooler in a smaller room.

I even used this as a way to get a bad smell out of my house while I was curing cast iron. I opened up our back door and placed the fan near it and it genuinely helped relieve the house of the strong cast iron curing smell.

I wish it had a power indicator to show the percentage of the battery, just helpful to know that information.

Outside of that, I’m planning to get a few more of these so that we always have a couple going while a couple are being charged via the power of the sun.

At $129, you really can’t go wrong with the ITEHIL Portable Solar Fan!
