Spruce Up Your Truck for Spring with RealTruck Accessories

Old Man Winter is holding on for dear life here in Michigan, but it appears he is starting to lose his grip. With a couple of near 50-degree days in the extended forecast, I am turning my thoughts to spring fishing and turkey seasons. With spring comes spring cleaning, and for most of us in the Midwest that means tidying up the yard from winter debris, “summarizing” the snowblower, “un-winterizing” the lawnmower, and most likely cleaning up and organizing the garage.

Most of my spring cleaning revolves around the changing of different hunting and fishing seasons. I just started to put up my ice fishing gear to make room for my spring walleye gear. The next step is taking down all the turkey decoys and blinds and starting to dust off the calls from last season.

This year, I decided to incorporate some spring cleaning into my pickup with some new accessories from Real Truck. I added three items from their website which took me only a couple hours to install and will make my spring cleanup a breeze. Here in the midwest, spring equals mud, especially when you are out in the turkey woods chasing gobblers.

RealTruck Covercraft Carhartt Seat Covers

The first thing I added to “try” and keep the truck looking a little more respectable through the rainy season were some Covercraft Carhartt Seat Covers. I was very impressed at the precision fit, and they installed very easily. In typical male fashion I went straight to installation and didn’t even pretend to look at the instructions, but it was still smooth sailing.

I like the fact that I can take them off, throw them in the washer and reinstall them in no time to keep the inside of my truck clean and not smelling like my boots. Features for the Covercraft Carhartt Seat Covers are as follows:

  • Classic Carhartt styling
  • Duck-weave fabric construction
  • Branded with Carhartt’s iconic logo
  • Heavy-duty triple-stitched seams
  • Water-resistant
  • Available in two finished, brown and gravel
  • Machine-washable
  • Vehicle-specific fitment
  • Simple installation and removal
  • Integrated rear-facing storage pockets
  • Sold per-row
  • Three-year warranty

It was quite simple to go on the Real Truck site and punch in my truck details. They showed me exactly which models were applicable for my truck. Then, you just need to know the details of you front and back seat configurations and you are all set. These seat cover took me less that 15 minutes to install, I am sure next time after I wash them it will be even faster.

RealTruck BedRug Impact Bed Mat

Since I use my truck as a tool—more or less a giant hunting and fishing gear hauler—I opted to add a RealTruck BedRug Impact Bed Mat for several reasons. The main reason being that my 2500 HD truck bed came from the factory with all the pre-cut outs for a 5th wheel trailer hookup. That’s great in the event that I ever get a 5th wheel or goose-neck trailer…..I currently own neither. Despite the convenience of those holes being pre-cut, the factor “plugs” that the truck came with are HORRIBLE! If you step on them, they fall out to the ground. If you hit enough bumps while driving, they fall out. I am pretty sure that if you look at them sideways, they fall out. Nothing keeps them in place, so I was constantly dealing with open holes and lost plugs.

The RealTruck BedRug Impact Bed Mat INSTANTLY solves that by covering the holes and plugs while providing a nice, padded surface to be able to kneel down on and go through gear. The precision fit was once again amazing and the RealTruck BedRug Impact Bed Mat instantly transformed my truck ben into a much less stressful and more usable space. Features are as follows:

  • Anti-skid TPO composite surface
  • ¾” thick padded floor gives you impact protection and is easy on the knees
  • Integrated tailgate gap guard hinge keeps dirt and dust out of your truck bed
  • Designed for exterior use-will not absorb water
  • Chemical and stain resistant

While I mentioned that Old Man Winter was losing his grip, we are still seeing cold nights and the daytime highs are only for an hour or two each day. I installed the bed liner quickly and easily but will need to wait for warmer temps to install the Velcro that it comes with to secure the bed liner and the tail gate cover. They adhesive “helper” recommends doing it when temps are above 60 degrees. It still functions fine, and I will take that last step as soon as the temps are right.

Dominator Xtreme D6 Sidesteps

The last addition was something that not only adds way more function to my truck, but I also think they are pretty darn sharp looking as well! My truck came with factory running boards from the shop and they were “blah” to say the least. On top of that they had virtually ZERO traction and almost made it more dangerous to try and use them to get into the truck on these cold icy days. Plus, some of the paint is coming off and frankly, I am just over them.

I quickly and easily removed the factory running boards and in less than an hour installed a set of Dominator Xtreme D6 Sidesteps. These things look awesome and were SO easy to install, bolting directly to the already pre-tapped holes on my truck frame. Aside from the look, extra-wide step with the raised hex pattern is going to be night and day traction compared to the old factory steps.

Features include:

  • Durable tubular steel construction
  • Extra-wide 6” step pad with raised hex pattern
  • Textured lack powder coat finish
  • Dual purpose design offers benefits of a running board and sliders
  • Optional bolt on 4” drop steps available
  • Mounts to vehicle’s rocker panels (Frame mount available on select applications)
  • Comes with Dominator Xtreme Mount Kit and install guide
  • Simple bolt-on application and no-drilling required
  • Limited lifetime structural warranty with 5-year warranty on the finish

Again, the Dominator Xtreme D6 Sidesteps were a much needed improvement on safety and functionality with the added bonus of a pretty good looking facelift over the factory side steps. The side steps are 87” long and provide plenty of coverage for both the front and rear passenger doors.

And just like that, in just a couple hours my truck was spruced up for spring. Some very much needed upgrades and definitely my preferred kind of spring cleaning!
