The Israeli AR15 Horizontal Mag Holder

According to the manufacturer the horizontal mag holder “enables the carry of a loaded magazine ON your rifle where you need it for the fastest possible transition of the loaded magazine to the firearm”. The device allegedly provides a ” secure way to carry a gun and a magazine together but not loaded”. This might be seem odd for people trained to use firearms in the USA where we traditionally carry in “condition 1” or “condition 2”.

There is a reason why condition 3 or condition 4 carry is usually referred to as “Israeli carry”. Israeli training methods focus on carrying a pistol of rifle with no rounds in the chamber. This means that when needed the shooter needs to charge the weapon and turn off the safety. While it may take slightly more time there is no chance of an accidental discharge. Each method as his advantages and disadvantages, but I prefer carrying with a loaded magazine inserted in the gun.
